Now Seeking Five Founding Pillar Members

Five Owners. One Table. A Stronger Southwest Virginia Economy.

Help build an independent, owner-led business association created to generate commerce, strengthen business conditions, and give Southwest Virginia businesses an organized voice.

This is not an open membership campaign. It is an invitation to five serious business owners prepared to help form, finance, and govern the organization.

No payment is requested online. The first step is a confidential conversation.

Business Owners Need Their Own Table.

Southwest Virginia has capable owners, real capacity, and customers passing through every day. What it does not yet have is an organized table where private business owners set their own agenda, define their own priorities, and speak for their own commercial interests.

Business owners should not merely be invited to public meetings. They should have an organized voice capable of shaping the decisions that affect private commerce.

What Five Owners Can Begin Building

These are proposed areas of work. None of this is underway today.

Create Commerce

Exchange appropriate referrals, recover unserved opportunities, find regional vendors, and retain more commercial activity.

Strengthen Business

Identify shared barriers and turn owner experience into practical proposals and coordinated action.

Influence Policy

Develop an informed, independent, nonpartisan voice for common business interests.

Your Inability to Serve One Customer Should Not Mean Southwest Virginia Loses That Customer.

A sold-out night

A lodging property is full on a Saturday and turns away a caller. Another Southwest Virginia property has rooms open that same night. Without a dependable way to pass that guest along, the visit, the meals, the fuel, and the shopping all leave the region.

A purchase sent elsewhere

A contractor needs insurance. An agency needs printing. A retailer needs technology support. A lodging business needs cleaning, maintenance, accounting, photography, or food service. Capable regional providers often exist, and the purchase still leaves the region because no one made the connection.

Networking introduces people. Commerce creates transactions.

Do Not Begin With Hundreds of Names. Begin With Five Owners Who Will Build.

A long membership list proves nothing. Five credible owners who will define the mission, establish governance, select the first priority, review the budget, finance the foundation, and prove meaningful work can build something worth joining. Growth should follow results, not precede them.

A Founding Role Is a Responsibility, Not a Trophy.

  • Help define the mission and the standards the organization will hold itself to.
  • Help establish governance, structure, and the rules for how decisions get made.
  • Select the first priority and commit to seeing it through.
  • Review and approve a realistic startup budget.
  • Help finance the foundation of the organization.
  • Recruit credible owners after the first work is proven, not before.
  • Report honestly on what worked and what did not.

Founding participation does not purchase equity, a permanent board seat, guaranteed influence, referrals, revenue, exclusivity, or favorable tax treatment.

A Distinct Seat, Not Another Duplicate Organization.

Tourism organizations work to bring visitors to the region. Economic-development organizations work to attract investment and employers. Chambers of Commerce serve broad business communities in valuable ways. Local governments carry public responsibilities that private businesses do not. Each of these roles matters, and none of them is the same as a table owned and governed by private business owners themselves.

The proposed association would fill that specific seat. Cooperation with existing organizations is welcome wherever it advances private commerce. No partnership, endorsement, or affiliation exists today, and none is implied.

Measure the Commerce, Not the Calendar.

These are the categories the organization would hold itself to. No results exist yet, so no numbers are shown.

  • Referrals exchanged
  • Transactions completed
  • Regional purchasing redirected in-region
  • Private investment enabled
  • Barriers identified and addressed
  • Policies constructively influenced
  • Cross-county business relationships formed
  • Southwest Virginia dollars kept local

A meeting is not the accomplishment. A customer recovered, a regional purchase made, an investment enabled, a barrier removed, or a policy improved is an accomplishment.

The First 90 Days Must Produce Something Real.

What can five business owners accomplish together during the next 90 days that produces measurable value for Southwest Virginia businesses?

Not another study placed on a shelf. A specific problem. A specific action. A measurable result.

Could You Be One of the Five?

The right candidate owns or leads an independently owned Southwest Virginia business, can authorize a commercial decision without asking permission, is respected by other owners, is willing to fund and govern the beginning of something rather than watch it, and is more interested in results than in titles. If that describes you, the first step is a private conversation.
